SPOILER WARNING !!
Hi, I just finished patch 7.5 leading into 8.0, and honestly, it looks really exciting. It genuinely feels like the main story is starting to find its meaning again, and that’s a great feeling. Let me explain:
The Ascian arc dealt with themes I’ve often seen in Japanese works. In a country so deeply connected to its past, how do you move on from it while still respecting it, in order to face the future? It’s a powerful idea, and one that speaks to all of us.
Now it feels like the focus is shifting toward the future. In our world, human activity is damaging our ecosystem, and therefore our ability to keep living the way we do. That can feel unfair, especially since most of us, from generations Y, Z, and Alpha, didn’t really contribute to it.
And just like us, the heroes will have to fight to fix the mistakes of their ancestors, or the Ascians in their case. It’s unfair, but at the same time, it fits perfectly with the first arc’s message about coming to terms with the past.
So yeah, it really made me think about climate change. Even the situation with the reflections reminds me of reports about coastal communities, isolated and facing rising sea levels, yet still holding on to what they know. I could definitely see something like that being explored in one of the reflections.
I’m really looking forward to seeing where they take this. I just hope the solution won’t be another simple “magic fix” to force nature back under control. Personally, I have a hard time believing that a purely technological solution would be enough in our world.
On the contrary, I’d love for the resolution to feel grounded, meaningful, and hopeful. That’s something we could really use right now.
