Recently I've noticed that some of my prices for high level items were being undercut on the MB almost immediately, and by 1 or 2 gil, always by the same person/retainers. So I did a little digging and I found other people that have been having the same problems with this person. They all corroborated that their prices were also undercut by similar amounts almost right away after they posted their listings. So an FC mate and I put up bait listings to see how low the bot would go, and sure enough, the bot would go no lower than 20k for the item in question.
Now we go deeper down the rabbit hole. I found this person's character on the Lodestone database, only a WHM at 80 and all crafters and gatherers at 80, that alone may not be too suspect. Someone just really enjoys crafting, sure, but what is the end goal at that point then if all you do is craft and sell? Then I took at look at their FC page, closed recruitment, only 11 other players, all of them only having one class, none over level 18. For an FC that's been around for 6 months? That's a little odd, don't you think?
I tracked down the player in question on the player search, they kept themselves set to Busy so they could not receive incoming tells or anything else. For the most part, they only stayed in their apartment in Shirogane, except for when they needed to go out and gather more materials. The items they were farming are for the Neo-Ishgardian gear, so there's only one place to get some of those materials. So I watched and waited.
Today, however, this player did not have their status set to Busy. So again I waited, and when they showed up I was able to lock them in a trade window. This broke the bot's programming and put him at a standstill until the human behind it checked on it. We continue to report these bots and RMT suspects every day and everyone else should to. In compliance with the rules, I've withheld the player's name from this post.
Tl:dr: Bots are farming gil from players for potential RMT activities, always report them.
