To preface this, I want to say I'm only here because of certain announcements on intentions to change Viper, and I thought to give it a shot in expressing my satisfaction with it.
I think Viper is very fast paced and hectic. Probably very hard to follow for some, and unenjoyable, even, to others. But I don't see how that is, in and of itself, necessarily bad.
See, it's not that I don't want people to play or enjoy the job, far from it. I just don't think it's worth judging it as a catch-all kind of job to begin with. One does not want for alternatives among the melee DPS role, for starters, so it's not as if you'd be excluded from it by not playing Viper, specifically. Maybe it is good it's a niche job, enjoyable not to many. Not because of bragging rights or something, but because it opens up possibilities for some who would otherwise not have them, too.
I don't like casters, you see. At all. Just isn't the gameplay for me. But that just means the jobs aren't for me. Yes, I am very bad at healer because of it, and yes, I struggle quite a lot to level them for role quests and such. But I don't want them to be changed so I can enjoy them. Granted, this is a far more generalized case (I don't enjoy any caster, as opposed to not enjoying Viper, specifically), but I think that lends my argument strength. Changing casters to be closer to melee would mean those who feel the opposite of what I do would be deprived of their favorite job as it is.
In my opinion, Viper should be hectic and preserve the frantic ebb and flow of always having something to do. It may not cater to everyone, I fully understand that, but there is worth in having a niche job that's not everyone's vibe. Damn, I'd say Black Mage isn't so far from that, even. This worth, I think, is for people like me, who have never enjoyed a job quite as much. To try and cater to everyone at the same time isn't necessary, anymore; we can have more targeted jobs fewer people will enjoy without excluding anyone from content, now.
