I've been seeing a growing trend in party finder with people trying to solicit for a girlfriend (or boyfriend) in game. I've even seen a few with links to an application for it.
Sure some people might just be searching for love within the context of their favorite MMO but there's also a lot of very questionable salacious requests being tied to it or these high expectations to basically bribe girls with in-game perks for their absolute time and dedication.
For an MMO with a very wide ranging demographic and a huge number of kids playing it there's a large market of vulnerable people, insecure people to be preyed upon. I've also personally experienced an uptick in the number of unsolicited and completely not okay moments of guys being inappropriate toward me.
Final Fantasy has been a rather safe space to be a girl-gamer and I really don't want to see that go away with this kind of thing.
I don't like the idea that in my fantastic video game I have to be worried about expectations of transaction whenever I help someone or someone helps me. To be marginalized based on my gender or to be crushed on because of it.
It's one thing to join a fellowship or a discord for singles that play FFXIV but advertising it in Party Finder robs me of the opt-out to not have to see it.
