The townspeople from San d'Oria, Bastok, and Windurst are decked out in their most horrifying ensembles and awaiting your arrival!

So go ahead and start stocking up on all those goodies that the monsters of Vana'diel can't resist!

So far other than a "few new costumes" this sounds exactly the same. Boooooring.

They need to make a haunted house zone. Have a new instanced zone that the moogles warp you to for this. It should be like Gusgen, but scarier (Gusgen still creeps me out. And the sirens there and in Moval... gah! But that's Silent Hill's fault)

Maybe you have to walk around creepy shit to find NPCs who will give you candy (Why can't we be the ones to get the treats for once?) and prizes. If they were really imaginative, fake you out with some mobs attacking and "killing" you like how you die in the opening CS to CoP dynamis. No exp loss of course, just start the ghost house/obstacle course over again to try and dodge creepy shit for the snickers bar.

Oh, and must fake you out with noises. Make a sound like a tonberry aggroing from behind you. Now that's creepy. Oh man, or keep going with tonberries and have a dark misty area with none but a tonbie with his lantern for light. Maybe have to sneak along behind him to try and see whilst not getting aggro from him. Maybe up the ante a bit by having creepy things in the dark that drain your HP or something.

Could have a graveyard with a red moon like firesday and have qutrub that pop out of the ground and grab you. Would be even sweeter that if they got you, and you were in a party, that you are now a zombie (read: charmed) and start attacking your friends. They'd need some cool graphics for it though like turn your skin green. And if it were Soj, he'd be required to shout "BRRRAAAINNNNSSS" because Soj does everything in /shout.

Bottomless pits with floating tiles and flying ahriman with BLOOD RED eyes that will attack you and try to knock you off. And you'd need to have some invisible thing that walks slowly with loud heavy steps coming up behind you that'll get you and do unspeakable things as motivation to move onward. Otherwise you'd sit there all day and wait for the ahriman to fly away. It, of course, is exempt from falling. Need floating creepy ghosts on the way down before you "die" and are taken back to entrance.

Mirror house where you see lots of reflections of your character in all creepy ways with red eyes or looks like an AA, or green undead skin, and maybe some of the reflections pop out. And if you try to cheat using invisible, just have random mirrors spawn badass demons to beat your cheater ass down.

Yeah, that would be goddamn cool. Screw this pansy ass give an NPC candy and hee hee I turned into a wolf shit. We need to put the horror back in Halloween!! (blatant Foamy ripoff)

That sounds exciting Zeri, but me senses you have WoW symptoms!!!

Or items that are actually useful, instead of "Movement speed +3% while in costume and on Firesday with moon phase between 56% and 62%"? I remember doing a Halloween event in EQ and the items the mobs dropped (awesome skeleton NMs) were really sweet.

when I first started playing FF I remember some event where you got ported to some higher level area at level 1 - with flee, sneak, and invis on with random timers and you had to go find some ??? thing.

I don't even remember why.

I remember it was the first time I'd gone to Oztroja, Rancor's... and other places I can't remember caring about in the slightest anymore. It was kind of an interesting introduction to areas actually. Probably more impressive to me as a new player, which we have few of anymore, but at least you did something. Standing around and talking to random NPCs in random patterns doesn't really suit my definition of doing anything.

Yeah, the EQ and EQ2 holiday events are pretty cool--they have haunted houses, cool group events, going trick or treating to various PCs and NPCs... and such... kinda cool. Hopefully SE will get an idea and make something here.

I think my favorite WoW holiday event is the valentines one.... I'm not havin too much fun with brewfest... but the beer that you drink and then puke up is kind of fun

those chocolates they give you in the valentines day event are amazing

FF terms: Food items that would give like +35MAB and then there's one that would be like +25% cure potency

WoW symptoms meaning diversity in holiday events, retaining their interest?
Probably my use of the word "instance" is what triggered WoW thoughts. I should say, "Assault-style" zone that you talk to the moogle to enter and it's created for your party so multiple groups can go simultaneously (IIRC, BCNMs only one group can be in at a time so others have to wait for them to finish up which blows).

The Charm Wand for FFXI isn't too bad either. Reraise on a party member, looks really cute, and is just close enough in resemblance to do a Moon Spiral Heart Attack! (yeah I watch way too much anime...)

I wonder if there were a way we could implement events as players. I think some MMOs let you do that. Might be fun to make a haunted house by draging each other on level 1 jobs to dark places and play hide and go seek basically (not partied so no markers). Like to Castle Zvhal. Have others around in costumes who can raise and of course laugh at your noob ass for getting beat down by a demon that turned on you. Or have a ballista where everyone starts off invis and trying to sneak up on each other.

Does it let you buy bazaar items in ballista? Would be fun to make your own trick or treat capture the flag ballista with each team having a person with cookies in their bazaar for 1g. Each team defends their "cookiejars" from the other team trying to buy em. Probably lame, but no moreso than rooks or giving cookies to NPCs, but way more fun with slaughtering each other for candy. Might be strategically interesting too to make a rule you can't kill cookie jars. So who do you pick to be your "jar"? A healer to keep everyone alive? A damage dealer to kick your ass as you try to buy em?

I think there's a lot more events we could be creating as players (warning: more imminent zany ideas). Like long before they came up with the chocobo circuit, I had an idea for how to make chocobo racing. Two parties of people. 10 contestants, 2 moderators. Right?

Each contestant would put in 1k. Winner takes pot of 10k (just for example). Moderators at the beginning (like jeuno zone?) would call a clock time to start and make sure no one was cheating. So they'd stand there and start it. There would be a designated end point, like let's say Zi'tah/Ro'maeve zone? So race kicks off, and moderators quickly use OP warps to get to Zi'tah and wait there for contestants. You'd all be in party so you could use party markers to make sure no one was cheating and have 2 judges to declare winner. And prefferably the moderators would be BLM's who could D2 everyone after the race.

Of course the disclaimers would be we're not responsible for D/C, lag, whatever. You don't win, you don't win. Tough titties. It's only 1k and meant to be fun to race with other players. Sadly, I never got enough people interested in trying it. /cry

Anyone else ever have zany ideas of events they wished would be made?

Sadly that clip and the casting time on Reraise are about the same--I think I understand why spell timers are so long now... FF programmers + too much Sailor Moon == Ancient Magic casting timers.

good god I love the attacks in Sailor Moon... they're so freakin awesome

Uranus's attack and Neptunes attack are the coolest ever

Nothing is better than Artemis when he's verbally bitchslapping Usagi tho.
