The Battle Content in DT is fantastic, and it's okay to not be good at it yet.

I want to give a HUGE shout out to the developers who made this expansions battle content. It is truly the best that I have played over my time on XIV, and is where I think is a fair level to expect of it's players. I mostly spend time on r/ffxiv, but needed to come to the Official Forums for my first time to let the devs know that myself and all of my friends LOVE what Battle Content is like right now. Please keep this pace up!

To my friendly WoLs who are struggling with this content, I want to remind you that it's okay to not be good at new content right away. You've made it through 4 expansions already, you can do this one too.

Losing, dying, and wiping is no reason to give up on the game. Just like any game, and life in general, we have to learn from our mistakes.

Just like bosses in other video games, remember that solo duties are a knowledge check, a test. "Can you read a mechanic, and then execute it while also doing damage?" If not, oh well you get a vuln up, take some damage and keep going. Fail too many, and you're sent back to the beginning. This isn't a punishment, it's a test. It's making sure you have the skills necessary for the upcoming sections of the game. Just try again, and learn from what went wrong last time.

Granted, I wish the XIV did a better job teaching the game. That's exactly what solo duties and early instances should be about. Teaching you those mechanics, so that they can be executed in other content afterwards.

But we HAVE had those instances of teaching already. We've had four expansions of dungeons, trials, raids, solo duties where we have done most of these mechanics. Use that knowledge you've already been given, and if you fail a mechanic you've never seen before, then figure out why. If the boss is holding up one of their arms, they're probably going to swing their big weapon on the side of the room.

No one's expecting you to do multiple Savage level mechanics in MSQ or Normal content, but SE IS trying to somewhat prepare you for if you want to do those things. The 4th expansion SHOULD build on the skills we've learned in the multiple years we've been playing the game.

Furthermore: Max level, end game content, SHOULD be challenging and rewarding. The challenge is doing harder mechanics, and the reward is getting better, and FEELING successful. When you do those harder mechanics, you get better at other facets of the game.

My friends and I are far from casuals, but we fully wiped to the first boss of the Expert TV dungeon four times. Each to the first four mechanics. I understand that parsing what a boss might be doing for a new mechanic can be tricky. But, again, we've played four expansions, there's only so much they could logically do.

DT hasn't become too hard, it's become harder. SE wants you to get better, so they can show you all the cool things they can do, and show you cool things YOU can do. There's so much fun to be had.
