And of course, that character is Elidibus.

I think most can agree that Elidibus was an incredibly boring character before Shadowbringers, and even in 5.2 he wasn't particularly interesting. But 5.3 made him a genuinely compelling character over the course of just a few hours. He's revealed to be someone obsessed with his duty even though he barely remembers it anymore, who fully believes himself to be saving the world in opposition of you. It's really interesting stuff, and what's more, is interesting in different ways than Emet-Selch was interesting.

It was already super impressive how 5.0 took the Ascians, a group previously derided as boring and generic, and made them incredibly interesting in a short amount of time. But Elidibus' handling is even more impressive to me. He was transformed from generic to a remarkably nuanced antagonist in the space of a single patch.

Ishikawa and Oda and company outdid themselves yet again.
