What do you do once your computer is infected with multiple virus'?
From what I've seen...

There's a biohazard logo as my background on desktop that reads "You may be infected!"

When I went to control panel to look around the username for the computer had change to Virus Infected.

Next to the time for the computer (bottom right) it said the time and after read "Virus Infection"

There was about 3 taskbars worth of IE windows open all over the place going to some web page antivirus 2008 xp Dont look it up if you don't know what you're doing.

After hitting alt F4 for about a hour (30 second repops, why can't xp be like that?) It calmed down and only popped up 3 at a time every 4-5 minutes.

Downloaded AVG, rand a system scan which found 17+ infections and cleaned all of them. Now it catches most of the pop ups and blocks the page from loading.

Unfortunately the background has changed to solid white. I right click the background but seems like it's a picture. going to control panel and clicking on display tells me "You system admin has disable this". Exit from control panel. Hit start, went to settings and everything but taskbar and start menu options is missing. I think I'm still infected tbh.

I got the computer from circuit city as a display model for like $200, so it didn't come with any software or I'd just format. I've tried to log off then back in as Administrator w/o a password and no dice.

Any advice? Trash it and get a new computer? lol
Only things I really want off it are my macros and music.
Rather save it if possible.

It didn't come with software but do you have windows XP disk and place to store any of your files? Like a jump drive or external hard drive or even another computer. You best bet to get 100% clean is to copy all your data that you don't want to lose to another media sorce. Heck even an Ipod would work if it has the space. Then reinstall everything from scratch. If you need more help shoot me a PM and I would be glad to help you.

No system disks came with computer. sux. I have a 4gb ipod and 2gb memory card. Should be good to copy music and macros.. problem is software.. after I format the computer I'm left with just a dos prompt.. Is it possible for me to torrent a whole cracked OS?

Yes, You can torrent a whole OS. My friend did it for himself. When you torrent it though it comes in a ISO file. ISO is kinda like winzip. But you need a ISO program to extract it. You can DL a ISO program for free online. After you DL your OS and extract it through ISO you will then need to burn it onto a CD/DVD depending what OS you DL. The CD/DVD will then be bootable like you had the actual OS CD/DVD.

With a lot of the torrent XP OS's will fail MS validation though. So you can't run windows update through a web browser. You can however go to microsofts website and manully DL all the patches. Just takes a lot longer.

BTW what kinda system is it. Dell, HP, IBM, Ect. If its a dell I have a XP disk that I could upload and you could DL it to a CD and it wouldn't fail MS validation. Only works on dells though.

Compaq /sigh
Thanks for the tips though. That was the main thing I'm worried about.. I knew it came as a ISO file but was wondering how I would install it on a dos prompt lol So once I burn the ISO file to a CD, I can just boot off CD and install then?

Edit: I actually might be able to get ahold of a full copy of XP from someone that does IT for a college. :D

Yeah you can boot off the CD like it was the real thing.

That would be best if you can get a real copy. Specially if its corp edition. That has no key to install it and it will always pass MS validation. Wish I burned a copy of corp edition when I was still at Hopkins.

Well GL getting your PC back up and running.

You know you download too much porn when................

unpacked ISO file burned contents onto CD and getting "Disk not bootable, please insert a boot disk." Any ideas? lol Dunno why but I get the feeling I'm going to just be buying this stupid shit

google for "daemon tools"

that's what I use to mount ISO images, works like a charm.

No worries. Apparently Compaq has some kind of built in format feature that formats and auto-loads the OS back on. Everything seems to be fine for now.

Just need to finish redoing macros in game and convert wotg zip file into a iso. I loaded the game and rest of the expansions through ISO off of here. Daemon tools is pretty sweet. So much for Ixion for now, but hopefully there's some freeroaming NMs in Toa.
