So I'm almost done with the MSQ of the SHB expansion (just arrived at the Tempest) and this expansion feels the most Final Fantasy of them all. I did love the previous content (I became a sub after all) but this expansion is the most fantasy inspired yet. Like before it was grounded in reality. Like the regions felt like real places but with some fantasy elements. In Shadowbringers on the other hand is full on fantasy with places looking totally out of this world. No single place looks like something you would see in this world. It's feels like opening a storybook. I definitely love how different this expansion feels from anything that came before. The story is also pretty good, focusing on character development which elevated the plot. In theory the story itself is pretty simple, very video gamey. You go to a region, battle the bad guys, save the day, sleep, rinse and repeat. But in that simplicity we get the opportunity to develop all the characters. We get to learn more about all of them, even ourselves. And I gotta say, I haven't been as attached to my WoD like right now. Like his pain, is my pain. His struggles are my struggles. It's not some avatar experiencing pain and suffering. It's is I who is experiencing said pain and suffering. I am the Warrior of Darkness and I am the one who struggles with both the responsibility of my task and my powerlessness to do something about it. While before we were all but happy in dealing with a baddie, now is all empty. We no longer feel anything, we simply are. We do our duty and move on to the next. Hopefully the rest of the expansion and the patches keeps the quality because as it stands by this seems to be peak Final Fantasy.
