You could have saved your macros ><

C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER

Copy the folders in that location....

Those are your Map markers, macros & game settings (windows, sounds in game etc)

When you are done reinstalling, just copy those folder BACK to the SAME location under C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER -- Just copy and paste the folders back and when you logon to FFXI, you have all of your macros and game settings.

I didn't install to my C drive :-P
jkjk I got ya

I have this fear that I'm gonna fuck something up;_; sigh

Nah.. if you just copy those folders under the USER directory and paste them back when you are done installing, you are good to go... at least with the macros

If you want to know where are really all your macro:
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER\ccf1cc

All the mcr(0, well only mcr) to 9 files are your macro set (Alt + Ctrl). So if you have several jobs and need to make more macro, make a new file in the "ccf1cc" file named "BLM" for exemple, copy/past the mcr. Then make another file named with your other set jobs, SMN for exemple, personally I like to have 1 set = 1 avatar.

If you haven't understood anything, ignore me :( its just hard to explain something like PC stuffs/files in english ^^;
And well, Im a total newbie in PC, so if i didn't make any mistake, you should be good :)

And if you have another hard drive, you can copy/past all the FFXI files in case your PC break, and make you avoid the 159437264 hours of dowloading. Or at least all your macro :)

update, FFXI and RoZ installed, trying to find my gdamn CoP CDs... /sigh

I also got 4.5 hr worth of update downloaded as I slept, so that's something too

let's hope this actually fixes the problem lol

That is incorrect.

Each Charater ID has its own code... ccf1cc is YOUR code and doesnt match any of ours... Benny's would be different. If I copy my folder which is someting like 'beefc8' --- to someone else's computer and login with my content ID, then all my macros, map markers and game settings are there.

Thanks,
Aa

That's good to know, thanks Aang. ;)

Unfortunately, this doesn't work. You would also need to make a backup of your registry, as SE's ffxi installation makes alot of vague registry entries. I've tried to do a straight folder copy between laptops and ran into this problem. There's two ways to make a backup:
After you're done installing and updating FFXI, tweak the settings to your liking, run regedit.exe, backup the registry, and make a copy of the entire playonline folder. Regularly update the registery backup. Like this, if you have any ffxi issues, you can just blow away the original folder and (if necessary) double click the registry backup and load your original settings. The registry backup is mostly for installs you make to another computer or if you need to completely reinstall your OS. If you have to format your HD, and you only have one HD, you're probably screwed. (spend 20 bucks on a 20GB HD off ebay and you'll be set, as that's more than enough to store your registry and up to date FFXI installation)
My suggestion is during the next full OS installation, if you want to make a perfect ffxi backup:
For single HDs:Create 2 partitions during installation, one main, and one for your backup folders ~13GB large.
For two HDs: Just install on the main HD and format the backup HD after the OS installation is complete.
Install OS
Install all needed drivers as well as compressed file software, drive emulators, antivirus, spybot scanners
Install FFXI and perform updates
Run a registry back-up using regedit.exe and save the file to your back-up partition (this would save a clean copy of your registry settings, before those little programs we all download invade it) and copy/paste the PlayOnline folder onto your back-up partition/second HD. This would take alot of space, of course, because FFXI is about 10-12GB. The registry can reach up to 40MB. Be sure to update your registry backup as often as possible (preferably after each important program installation you do) and name them according to the date of the backup.
Like this, if you ever have an FFXI issue on your computer or another computer (you'll need to install appropriate drivers on other computers), you can just copy/paste the folder AND the registry and bypass updates altogether.

indeedly-doo Furax... format and reinstall I say. lol

It's not worth my time ever to do something like that, haha.. The USER folder is enough for me.

And BTW...I bought that DVD for FFXI, very very nice.... I did an install with that DVD on a new computer... ALL from ONE DISC!

After I compeleted the installs, it does one file scan for 12,300 files or so and then downloads only about 1300 files... very nice indeed.

I have 4 HDD in my main machine, 20, 60, 60, 120. FFXI along with a large amount of anime is on the 120... but they're all full to bursting really

I need to buy a new one bad, prices look pretty nice for a 320-ish one. Maybe next payday^^

oh and I did get the reinstall and updates done. about to copy over my USER files and hope that FFXI no longer randomly restarts my computer >.>

edit: problem remains....;_;_;_; time to reinstall windows I spose
