I love Final Fantasy XIV and I’ve had a pleasant experience with almost every dungeon/trial/raid I’ve done. So going into Shadowbringers, I was running the dungeon in Il Mheg like normal and apologized upfront for the fact that it was my first time so I was discovering some of the mechanics for bosses as I was going along. Everything was going good until the healer decided to go on ahead and pull way more than we could handle, I use Unleash to pull all them in and even buff myself but we all end up dead because there was way too many of them for us to handle. Here’s where it REALLY starts to irritate me is the chat insulting me and insinuating I’m a bot and asking me questions like “What’s my favorite color?” and “What’s your favorite food? If you even eat that is >.>” and I literally have to stop to answer because I’m a PS4 player and its hard to type on the PS4 keyboard. It pretty much goes on from here with them insulting me and calling me a shitty tank. And before anyone says it, yes it is perfectly fine to critique my performance and no, I’m not perfect (far from it) but rather than helping me learn like good players do, they resort to name calling and starting the boss fight while I’m watching the cutscene which I haven’t seen.
I’d stick with the Instanced Dungeon with the NPC party if it weren’t more difficult. This is EXACTLY the reason I don’t like online games and was apprehensive about FFXIV before the acclaimed story eventually convinced me to play.
I’m sure I’ll have plenty of good experiences after this, but I just wish people would realize that the way to get me to play better isn’t to make fun of me, it’s to actually take the time to tell me what I’m doing wrong. I’ve done many Extreme trials and raids, even some Savage ones and I’d categorize them as positive experiences because everyone was actively trying to learn and do their best.
Apologies for the rant, I just expected better of the community judging by my previous experiences.
