I imported character settings from one character to another, and on the character that received the settings, I experience this error when viewing the Portraits menu and hovering over any of the imported portraits for each imported gearset:

Portrait settings incompatible with current character. You must use the subcommand "Reset Default Settings" to edit and use this portrait.
However, when opening the subcommand menu, the listed text on the subcommand is actually "Restore Default Settings".
