OK... just totally freaked myself out.
As you all know, the first part of the update was downloaded today. Being the little suspicious noob that I am, I realized that the only files downloaded were .SPW files... In other words, sound effects. I then found my SPW -> WAV converter, and converted the newly found sound effects into WAV files. What I chanced upon is a plethora of weird (and actually quite freaky) noises that are undoubtedly from new mobs.
The folder I inspected:
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\sound\win\se\se302
The program I used is a generic BGW -> WAV converter which converts the FFXI BGW background music into WAV files. It also converts the sound effects. Seriously, anyone who reads this needs to go scout these out...
Alternatively, I can post the WAV files on the net somewhere if someone has somewhere to host them. (Kinda excited because I'm the first person to realize this ^-^)
