New computer! Please HALP!

I think you can slave the HD and literally copy the entire PlayOnline folder over to your new HD. It will run a file check to see if the folder is intact when you log in, but prior to logging in I think I remember having my POL ID's still in the list to choose from.

I haven't used the install CDs on the last several reformats I've done, because the file check, although slow, was still quicker than my having to DL tons of FFXI updates from POL's slow-as-snail servers.

Thanks for the quick replies. Unfortunately I wont be able to try this till I get my new computer up and running. lawl

Holy hell, you running water cooling + 3 vid cards in SLI + 8 drives? That power supply is massive overkill.

I'd say 750W max for your setup, and that's still a bit much.

Video card, at your price point i'd go with:

Two of these in SLI would greatly out perform that 4870. And it's in your budget since I just saved you $100 on your power supply, haha. If you'd rather go with one card vs two, a better choice would be:

Are you overclocking? The stock intel heatsink preforms reasonably well (and is free), so unless you're overclocking (or plan to) I'd skip the heatsink.

RAM is pretty cheap now, I say go with as much as you can afford.

I hope that windowsXP you plan on running is 64-bit, or else all that memory isn't going to do you jack shit. I highly suggest installing the RC of windows 7. It's a great OS and it has that 'new computer' smell.

Which CPU? I see from a prior post that you linked to an i7. You can't run that on this board as it is a different socket. If you need a good CPU for that board I'd recommend a quad core Q9550

I assume you already have the hard drives, because the ones you posted are quite dated.

How does that Antec Three Hundred feel? Does it feel flimsy or look cheap? Was planning on building a PC this weekend for my nephew and was eye balling that case.

Edit: After seeing your case, you might be better off with a single card as you might have space issues.

Wasn't sure how much would be needed tbh. I'll prolly go with that one.

I was going to just run w/o overclocking and see how it performs first. Might OC later. Heatsink nixed for now.

Was going to get this cpu. Was under the impression I couldnt do a quad core processor with that mobo. /shrug
As far as OS goes I hate Vista with a fiery passion. Since that's the case, should I get 4 gigs for now and upgrade to 8 when I get win7?

Case feels well made, no problems with it at all. Not sure how everything will fit once I get it to my house though.

He's going to hold massive Minesweeper Tournaments.... of course.
WINRAR!

It's going to be my gaming/htpc. The games I'll be playing more than likely will be: FFXI, FFXIV, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2. I'm not going to be encoding movies or anything like that.

So given what I want to do, what's better quad or dual?

P.S. Yes, I was more than likely high while discussing this stuff with you. That and it being a few months ago I tend to forget things. joff

I think it's pretty obvious what he plans to do with it.

World domination.

Sorry Talf, I had to let the secret out..
