With so much of Final Fantasy XIV's storyline focusing on the exploitation of natural resources, and even highlighting the fall of an entire civilization from the abuse of technology, it leads me to reflect on the environmental footprint of the game itself.
I have been inspired by the story to believe in humanity's potential to create a brighter future, and to take actions in my daily life to help achieve this. However, I feel a little hypocritical when I log in to play FFXIV, when I consider that I cannot find a Square Enix policy to address climate change while we are in this time of crisis for our own Earth's environment.
I feel that if the players brought this up, Square Enix would surely respond positively and take reasonable actions to reduce their carbon footprint where possible. What do you guys think?
