Any of you guys/gals know of a good site to read up on merit points?

I really want to read up on them and decide what i am going to use mine for and how they work.

Some people have explained it to me but i feel there is more info out there i need to read up on.

Also what did you Black Mages spend merits on? MP? Elemental Attack?

BLM order of merit...
Elemental Magic(If you fail, why try)
Potency(Pick your poison)
MP(Stock up for the winter)
 
I have 3 levels of elem. magic skill (1+2+3), 1 of MP (1), 1 of thunder potency (1), and 1 of ice potency (1) (which I may remove later).

I think the first points in MP and thunder potency are very worth grabbing for the low cost of 1 point, but from there on out go skill til that's done.^^

blm merits

First I got ice and thunder to lvl 5, then got all the spells, then got elemental to lvl 8, then INT to lvl 5, then MP to lvl 8. I'm working on spell interruption down atm.
Interruption down seems better than enmity down doesn't it? I was thinking that at least since enmity would do nothing for ballista lol. :shades02:
 
Wow, necrobump from hell. This thread is like two years old. But as for BLM merits, it depends a lot on what you want to do with your jobs endgame. If you fight HNMs a lot on a mage job, cap your enmity decrease and don't look back, trust me. Also I'm a big believer in MP merits for mages, but I'm also a big believer that zenith is crap gear by and large. As for me the merits I got so far are... let's see. MP+50, INT+1, ele skill+16, crit hit rate+4%(sooo good for melee dot), enmity -4, thunder potency+10%, ice potency+10%, burstII lv2, freezeII lv1. Not that I've been playing lately (._.) hehe. Having BST at high level was a big influence in some of those decisions; the extra MP is extremely noticeable on bst/whm.

Of course if you don't HNM much or at all, enmity down is considerably less worthwhile :P.

For a min i thought Benny bumped this -_-

I capped my merits not long ago what i did

Elemental Skill +16
Ice and Thunder Potency +10%
MP Merits +40 MP
Burst II & Freeze II Level 3
INT +1 (i have +4 in STR for others jobs)

I haven't touched Enmity or Spell Interruption because i still not decided if i going to take PLD to 75.

As for the other HP/MP Merits i did 4 HP merits for my Melee Jobs and i would never of thought that these HP Merits would save my ass on BLM so many times. I won't be changing this in the near future.

My heart is not in BLM like it once was when i first posted this otherwise i would of went +5 INT and +80 MP
 
I'm pretty surprised by how many ppl cap freezeII. Unless I read the description wrong, isn't the bonus for higher levels only applied when you MB the spell?

I'd never ever merit mp personally.

the +80 hp has saved my ass countless of times on all my jobs (even blm).

+80 mp for blm is more or less 1 more dot spell, or 1/4 of a nuke.
Sure it might come in handy in a pinch but you might as well manafont if you're down to that sort of mp.


Potency 2nd.

3rd would be enmity down if you don't plan on leveling a tank job.

(I'm still not sure if the enmity applied to sa/ta is the one of the /thf or of the one who receives it.)
 
It's a bit hard to interpret, as SE isn't the best at writing lucid descriptions, but it looks like you *might* get the magic accuracy bonus without MBing them. Regardless, I'd say I would use Flood 2 and Tornado 2 even less frequently than I currently MB Freeze 2, so capping Freeze 2 made the most sense for me.
 
I'm not really sure either but i have it for dark skillchains.

Since i burst with a hq ice staff which gives elemental magic skill +10 & ice potency +10% it made sense to cap it.
