Ever since Stormblood, the lore we've gotten per job has gotten less and less. Alot of it being up to personal interpretation or getting lucky and having your specific question answered at QnAs or random Interviews. And those are so few and far between, and the chances of some highly specific Job Lore being asked. And while EE1 and EE2 do go over the jobs, their gear and actions from ARR through SB (A good few of which are gone or heavily changed now). EE3 mostly focuses on Jobs from SHB and EW, and don't touch on the jobs from before those as much.
And with the removal of Job Actions from Job Quests and AF armor now coming from vendors instead of quests (or in case of HW's launch, tomes.) the reasoning for why or how we're accessing new skills or what point of time our gear comes from have all but disappeared. While new the 5 new job quests per new job try to explain the basics, the specifics for after are always ambiguous.
Why did the Warrior of Light suddenly decide to use Firebird Aether? We all know about the whole "Bahamut and Phoenix Aether has merged due to the 7th Calamity." But why did the WoL decide to start summoning Phoenix while on the First? Sure if you've DONE Coil you'll know Louisoix used the gathered aether to transform himself into Phoenix and upon his "death" dispersed said Phoenix Aether to quicken the realm's recovery. And at that point the WoL looking at the First and going "Rejuvenation" makes complete sense why they decided to start summoning Phoenix. But if you haven't, then how or why are you even aware of the Phoenix as a concept? Sure you could've read about it, or the Job Stone taught you, but it's stuff like this that could really use some lore blurbs just for the fun of it.
For that matter why did the Warriors of Darkness have the Source's AF1 on the First? Even ignoring them conveniently getting bodies on the Source that looked identical to theirs, right down to weapon and gear choice. Why was Renda-Rae in Bard Gear? She was a Ranger, she just got an offhanded mention that she liked to sing. From what we've seen we can kinda assume that Lamitt and Nyeblert's schools of Magic were heavily inspired and taken from Ronka, kinda weird to put them in Amdapori and Mhach gear. Ofcourse there's meta reasons like making them look like the CGI crew to hammer in the point that their "You but not you", and we know that gear designs can pop up on Shards regardless of origin, we see people can have visions/dreams from the other reflections.
Did the WoL take a side trip between everything going on in the First (Not even mentioning their state of being at the end of the expansion). To Skysteel to get handed the Automaton Queen? Did they make it up while chilling in Kholusia or the Crystarium?
What people did Grenolt see in the drained Crystals of Light in the Tempest? Did the First ever have a Summoner and Dragoon equivalent? The gear he makes is based on the Source's Gunbreaker first AF set, why does Summoner's Shadowbringers AF look like another variant of the first AF? We know AF1 were general robes, AF2 were Ceremonial Summoner Robes and AF3 were High Summoner gear near the end of the Summoner's existence. The Shadowbringers set looks like the first set but without all the bells and whistles, are they student gear? The gear young Summoners wore before finishing their studies and being granted their first real set (and in this case literally their wings).
Might just be me, but I would absolutely pay money to have dedicated lore books on the various Jobs to tells us more about how the WoL gets access to these abilities other then just assuming the Job Stones do it, or in cases like MCH where the Job Stones are new, it just happens. Curious what others think!
