I've played Final Fantasy XI and XIV on and off from their respective launches. I remember chatting folks up and joining linkshells in XI, and going to help folks with quests. My oldest friend is from a Qufim island party in 2003!
But I have yet to make any friends or meet people in XIV. I've been a part of my buddy's FC for like ten years, but it's a very small group of folks who are a raid static. I have a lot of anxiety around talking to new people out of the blue, and it feels like the dungeons don't give me enough time to type and chat with folks to make connections.
Now I live on the other side of the planet, so my schedule never lines up with old friends, and after a couple months of playing again, it feels extremely lonesome, despite being surrounded by players.
It may just be 'my time' to stop playin', but FFXI/V has been a pretty pivotal part of my gender identity journey, that it feels even more sad to think about leaving it for good.
SO THE QUESTION is, in all seriousness, please be kind;
How do I meet new folks and make friends? Zones aren't really populated with players doing similar quests these days, deep dungeons seem pretty abandoned and dungeons zip by so quickly.
Genuinely a bit sad and curious! I'm a Balmung original from 1.0, so it feeps really uncomfortable to ask when I'm literally surrounded by people in Ul'dah.
