I just started FFXIV a little while ago and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it.
Last night I did my first dungeon and it was... a bit chaotic for me. It was the Sastasha dungeon - I play as a Conjurer. I was healing the tank, but since I was still getting my bearings, I fell behind and they died. I thought, “Now I can try practicing the Swiftcast + Raise.” I managed to rez the tank, but then a DPS died. Rezzed them, but in the meantime I had drawn aggro so I died.
In my panic I closed all the screens that had popped up (help screens, “you died” screen, etc.). So cue me just laying the ground, not sure what to do. I was sending messages in the chat but my party wasn’t seeing them (they were asking “Oh did he go AFK?”). So lesson learned # 1: Switch to Party Chat haha
Finally I was able to communicate with my party that 1. I’m sorry for dying and not keeping up with healing them, and 2. How do I rejoin? These people were so patient as they explained where on my screen the “Notices” were and how I would go about reviving and rejoining.
I eventually figured it out and was able to rejoin, and we finished the dungeon. Afterwards, I made sure to rearrange my hotbar to facilitate healing my party members. I also practiced more situational SwiftCast uses.
My second and third run of Sastasha went much better - I even got a few commendations.
My in game name is Erik Mercer - so if any of y’all were in that first run with me - thank you for being so patient and helping me out!
Loving this game so far and I’m already sorely tempted to go ahead and buy it (would love to have the functionality to add friends and create parties!)
