Guys it feels SOOOO good to have internet and power again! And it feels so good to be back in Eorzea.
Mobile networks were really spotty here so I could only get access to online functions like...3 or 4 times a days if that. My Free Company were really pivotal in all of this. Over Discord we talked and most of them being from the North, gave me loads of tips on handling cold weather and making due with lack of winter clothing, how to stay warm in negative degree weather, and served as a lifeline for me. I was really nervous, being without power for 60+ hours when the temps dipped down to the negatives and it started to get hard to move or function in the house. The MOMENT we got power back I logged on to a bunch of very supportive FC mates thrilled I was okay, and I was so grateful I could stay in contact with them and rejoin them in Eorzea today.
Maybe I shouldn't have wasted precious battery power browsing the FFXIV reddit, or watching FFXIV videos or streaming some music, but this game and its community has become a real comfort for me and I didn't know where else to turn during a really trying time. Even while I was freezing in my home and things were looking scary for a lot of us, I found a lot of comfort in staying connected with people in the game and reading the new hotfixes for Bozja (Which I was very excited for) and seeing all the lovely Valentione's/Little Ladies' Day fanart. I'm so glad I made it through and I'm now warm and safe and my FC was waiting for me online, and that I got to dive back into my comfort game and destress after a long and cold week.
I'm really reminiscent of Yoshi-P talking about other disasters that this community has used FFXIV to connect to friends and family through, and use it to cope with a trying time. I realize now how pivotal Eorzea can be when it comes to keeping tabs on affected friends and just using it to cope with scary times. I'm grateful I'm still here, and we just got running water back today so I can cook some food. The first thing I did when I logged in was decorate my home for the holidays and hit up some friends for BLU stuff and weeklies. <3
So thank you Eorzea and community! I'm glad to be back, and I'm glad I could hold onto a sense of normalcy while all of this was happening by using what little time I could to interact with other FFXIV players and immerse myself in the world to the best of my ability. You guys have proven to be a big help during a trying time, so thank you. I really mean that. And I hope I'll be in Eorzea for a long time.
