I'm a WoW veteran (since Vanilla, but on and off) and I recently switched to FFXIV. WoW used to be a place where people would work together to achieve things and have fun. I think in some guilds this is still true, but my experience over the last couple of expansions has been one shot through with silence and passive aggression (and sometimes not so passive) from most other players. Players are very critical towards each other, trade chat is an absolute nightmare, and people leave PUGs after sometimes a single wipe, blaming each other for the failure.
Last night I had to tank both Odin and Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard) for the first time. Both were done through the duty finder as I haven't found an FC yet. The Odin party was made up almost entirely of sprouts, and we wiped 6 times. Not a single person complained, and no one left the group. People offered helpful suggestions, and other people took advice to heart and changed their play. The other tank and I naturally fell into a system where we would taunt off each other after each Sanngetall, and in all honesty it's was the most fun I've had in a PUG in years. After we downed Odin everyone was cheering in the chat because it was a genuine achievement for us.
Then almost immediately after this I did Tam-Tara and had a very similar experience. We wiped on the first boss 4 or 5 times until we learned the mechanics, then got through it and managed to finish the run. No one complained, no one left, everyone was nice and helpful and worked together. It was so amazingly refreshing and honestly kind of heartwarming.
Anyway, I know posts like this come up on this sub from time to time, but I guess for some reason I was still a little skeptical. And I'm sure there are some bad apples out there that I will eventually encounter. But the past 2 weeks have be so much more pleasant than my past 2 years of WoW that right now I can't ever see myself going back.
