I'm a new FFXIV player coming from WoW. I quitted WoW because I found the endgame not really fun and the droprate too rng and grindy. Also I started to not really like the visual style of the game. I wanted to play FFXIV because I'm a fan of the FF saga, with FFXV and FFX being my favs. I also find the visuals of FFXIV much better, more colorful and defined. Also, it's a new experience for me since I never played this game.
One of the question I always make when starting a new mmorpg is: how does the meta work? Is it really important or you can play pretty much what you want and still being able to clear everything? What I mean is, I'd like to play the class I find more fun to, but if the meta has a really big impact on the game I could be forced to play a job I don't like just to be able to do something in dungeons and raids. And I wouldn't like that, I'd like to play the job which I find funnier to play.
So in your opinion, is the meta really important or one can go and play what he wants without overthinking? I know you can swap jobs with one character, but it wouldn't change the fact if the meta was too much significant in the endgame.
