Is Augmented Scaevan Gear Good Enough For Shb Leveling Dungeons? Some Numbers

The TL;DR is yes it is more than good enough even for big pulls in Gulg, and any problems you might encounter will have to do more about how people are playing (No AoE DPS, no defensive cooldown tanks, healbots) and less about gear.

I'm just making this to have something to link back whenever I see someone complaining about tanks in Scaevan gear, but same thing applies to DPS too.

For Qitana Ravel, as the previous dungeon offers i400 gear, Scaevan is more than good enough for this being exactly the same stats, and the difference between a full Scaevan tank and a full Ravel tank is 81 DEF/MDEF (less than 1% damage reduction) and 28 vit (882 HP), which is so laughable it's not even worth to differentiate these sets.

For Malikah's Well: The expectation here is that a tank starting this dungeon would have Ravel gear, but we just established that Ravel is pretty similar to Scaevan. Even comparing a full Scaevan tank to a full Nabaath tank at level 77, the difference is 400 DEF (29% -> 31% dmg reduction) and 41 vit (1291 HP). 2% damage reduction and 1.2k HP is completely negligible, 1.2k hp is less than what autos hit, 2% dmg reduction isn't gonna be noticeable at all in damage taken. Once again scaevan is pretty much the same as the best set you can wear at 77.

So Scaevan is good all the way to 77, what about 79?

For Mt Gulg the first thing is that anyone just starting this dungeon would have Nabaath gear, you can't expect people to be wearing level 79 gear here without having run the dungeon, the dungeon is balanced around this fact, and you are unlikely to get a full set in the few runs it takes to get to 80. The difference between entering this dungeon with Scaevan vs Nabaath is the same 400 defense (but now 27% -> 29% dmg reduction) and the same 1.2k HP. Again no difference between these 2 sets.

For the sake of showing numbers, let's compare scaevan vs the forgiven set, which again isn't realistic to expect when you only need 4 runs to cap. The difference is 722 DEF (27% -> 30% dmg reduction) and 43 vit (wow, 1.3k HP now!!!!). Just 3% damage reduction and 1.3k HP.

This was just for tanking, for DPS the difference in gear between Scaevan and Nabaath is only around 4 WD and ~100 main stat, which is a gain of ~3% main stat, something that won't make or break a run. The forgiven does give more damage related stats as they only lowered vit gain, but it's still ~5% of your stats.

If the numbers are wrong feel free to correct me, I'm not a math wizard and I just used their tools, but this confirms my personal experience of there being no noticeable difference between Scaevan and the other sets in ShB dungeons, and the people who notice such differences are attributing bad gameplay to gear. If your tank feels squishy look at his cooldown usage and if he's standing in AoEs. If the pull takes too long look at what the DPS are doing and whether the healer is helping with DPS or not.

The vit value will include extra vit from being 80 as Etro has no level slider, but we only want the vit difference between each set.

Defense mitigation calculated with https://maffohub.github.io/FFXIV-Stat-Calculator/ adjusted for each dungeon level.
