So a little bit of background. MMO's have never been my thing, and largely still aren't outside of FF14. GaaS similarly never really grabbed me outside of Anthem (so of course that's one of the ones that died within a month). But I really like Final Fantasy, so at the start of this year I figured I'd start the free trial of FF14 and really see how I do with it, give it a fair shot, etc. And to my surprise I'm enjoying it! The thing is though I also want to play other games, and I have a full time job, so my time with the game has been super limited.
I ended up taking about two months off of the game. I'm now slowly starting to get back into it, and it finally hit me. I took months off, a brand new expansion came out, and yet I don't feel like I've missed out on much. This is a more casual, laid back game that I can drop for a while and come back to when I'm in the mood. I don't feel penalised for taking time off. I don't feel like I have to rush through it every week or two just to stay caught up. I can literally just take my time with it. And as someone with limited time to play it, that is an absolute godsend. That, to me, might be the best part of FF14: how casual friendly it is.
