I'm kind of the butt of a joke in my raid static because I have a level 80 fisher, and I use it on the regular. It seems like most of my friend group isn't into fishing as I am so I always get "yeah but who really uses fishing anyway" and all that. I take it in stride and on the rare occasion when people do ask me about fishing, I happily give advice. I haven't dived into big fishing yet, but I like to catch fish to feed my crafting addiction and passively work on completing fishing holes.
I was looking at aquarium fish a few weeks ago and one caught my eye -- the Warden of the Seven Hues. I showed it to two of my good friends in the static to ask them what they thought of it, and they both said they liked it. I unfortunately then looked up how difficult it was to catch, which is apparently a bit of a meme! A bunch of rare, weather dependent fish in order to proc Fisher's Intuition? The prerequisite fish are only available once an Eorzean week or so??? That's a bit out of my depth. So I caught an Ondobane instead and happily displayed him in my house.
Then two weeks ago, these two friends decided they were going to finish leveling fisher, because it was the last Disciple of Hand they had left. I helped them with class quests and talked them through the infamous dafangshi spearfishing quest, and taught them as much as I could about fishing in game. They maxed out fisher within a couple days and we kept happily playing together, with me none the wiser to their true plan.
Today, we were gathering some stuff for housing items, and they revealed to me what they had been doing. They specifically leveled fisher for getting me this crazy fish, and had been working on catching the Warden for a week and a half with no success. We went to the fishing hole as a group because the weather was right for catching the fish, and lo and behold, I got to witness one of my little fishing mentees catch the Warden!
This spectacular rainbow fish occupies a place of honor in my house now. He's a monument to the cool stuff you can do in this game but I'm so happy to have made friends in game that do cool stuff with me in game. I have to figure out how to do something equally amazing for them now.
