There are a lot of negative criticism posts, and it's easy for everyone to think that it's universally hated. When asked if anyone even likes it, people will say that you're more likely to go to reddit to complain than to praise.
Well, I'm here to praise.
I think the story was excellent. I found the first half of the story endearing and I loved how we went around and learned about each of the cultures of this new continent. I thought the tasks we had to do to help each group was cute and fun. I thought this was an amazing low-stakes break from the cosmic-level stories we've had recently.
The second half of the story had a very emotional story. The last zone, in particular, was very intense straight from the beginning when Cahciua asked us for her favour. The music going out after each section was haunting and had an amazing effect on the story and how you engage with it. The 3rd and 4th sections had me balling in tears throughout.
This story had me laughing (particularly the Wuk Evu scenes, but at several other points as well). It had me feeling epic (when I said, allow me to dismantle your army, I felt like the WoL badass that I am). It had me feeling tears (see above). It had me feeling humbled (as I progressed with Wuk Lamat's story as she learned of her neighbouring cultures).
I loved all of the characters and I thought the voice acting was altogether terrific. There was only 1-2 scenes where I thought it could be better, but otherwise I was quite happy with it.
I love Viper. I've fully made the swap to it being my main. I'm optimistic that the changes FFXIV has in store will make it even better.
There is a lot of negativity and a lot of dooming, and I hope this post goes to help show that some of us actually just love Dawntrail, and I hope there are more of you out there too.
