When I first starting doing Hunts in stormblood, it was alright. We would all fly around, look for the big bad and send the shouts in the cities for people to come get their tomestones. It might not have been the best system, and it's definitely been streamlined, but the game could use a couple fixes to match the players I think.
Now I'm in Behemoth, so I don't know what your server does but, when all the A ranks have spawned, a handful of dedicated people put out the call in all the cities and new zones, and everyone flocks in. None of the A ranks get touched prior, with a couple exceptions if an FC or a group of people take one out, but that's only happened maybe one time while I joined the choochoo train. Once word gets out, everyone, EVERYONE! flocks to the zone and parties up, and I'm talking 100+ players all coming in at once to get their tomestones and nutsacks, and things can get pretty dicey.
First problem: Models. Player models not loading 3 meters in front of me doesn't bother me, but the Boss not showing... How do I fight it? I spam my aoe. That's it. If my next ability in my aoe rotation signals, that means I'm hitting the boss. But since I can't see it, I also need to pop cooldowns so that I don't get hit by the occasional 990,000 needles. But I probably won't, because the boss will die before it shows up. Second problem: Bosses are made of tissue paper. They die in less thna 10 seconds. That's not an exaggeration, they die faster than some people in my party can teleport to the next zone and even get to the boss. If you don't have flying yet, you won't get to the boss. If you're not in a full party, you won't get credit most likely, or you'll get that 1 single tomestone of "good job tapping his big toe", or you get off 3 skills and then you get handed your rewards and shoved off to the next boss... woo Problem three: Why do anything else? If I get all three kinds of tomestones, the hunt currency I need, why should I do other things? This is a nit-pick, and you can argue this third point away very easily, but I personally don't need to do daily dungeons or raids if I'm getting my weekly tome cap by doing the train, or doing any of the board hunts when I just as many nuts doing the instead. Fourth point: It ain't all that fun now chief. Go here, press 4 and 5, goob job, no time to pause, next stop keep it moving let's go let's go. This point you can probably ignore because this is a personal thing, but my favorite part of 14 is the bosses, the trials. My friends and I doing the savage and extreme runs until we get that kill and cheer after an hour of dying. I know the A ranks aren't supposed to be as exciting as that, but I'm not even fighting these guys and I'm getting rewarded just as much, and I just don't like that feeling... It's just kind of a built up feeling I'm getting now after all these months and months playing that kinda had me do this post.
So, you slogged through my rant, here's maybe some ideas on fixing things? Players streamlined your feature, but you're a great dev team, you can tweak it! Have bosses get a health pool to match the number of surrounding players maybe? Not all servers might be doing this like my own, so a flat increase could hurt less popular servers doing hunts their own way. Hide models when a server gets overpopulated? Like, auto-hide chocobos for everyone but the owner? I'm not a coder, so I don't know how you could even improve server stability to handle a hundred or two players all spamming to hit a single entity that they can't see, but you'll get a big thumbs if you do!
Thank you for reading my gripes, and thank you for the hardworking people who organize the hunt trains in the first place.
