I just recently returned to the game after "Dawntrail" long pause, to check if I can get into the game in some way. The 100 lvl gameplay was too overwhelming as I forgot a lot. So I decided to create new character to learn again from scratch.
And one thing that always bothered me since I start playing this game years ago was more jarring to me now, more than ever.
Why is not MSQ fully voiced? This is such puzzling and honestly bad decision.
After I quit the game in 2024, due to boredom, I checked and played some free games like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Wawes and Honkai Star Rail.
It is wild to me that all these games can have fully voiced main quest but game like FFXIV cannot.
I was never big fan of the mute and "surprise!" voiced scene situation, especially as my sight slightly got worse with time. So experiencing multiple games similar to FFXIV (in some ways) and experiencing them being voiced (main story) was breath of fresh air, and returning to FFXIV felt even worse due to this new experience.
Not sure if voicing older content retrospectively would be doable (because we are constantly being reminded that this game is build with spaghetti code so we should always expect limitations and maybe entering new voiced lines into older content would make it go boom), but it would be nice, if this game, from new expansion forward, could have MSQ fully voiced.
Those who dont like MSQ can skip it. Those who dont like the voice acting can mute voices. But those who would love to have MSQ voiced, we are left behind in this weird situation getting voice scene here and there.
