I've tried so many MMOs in my lifetime and have always avoided FFXIV because everyone, especially /r/MMORPG mentioned how bad the early game is. I tried the free trial recently and I just wanted to say how incredible the experience was. The early game slog was DEFINITELY overblown. Yes, it's kind of generic, but it's not nearly as bad as people made it out to be. I love the worldbuilding and lore so far.
No MMO has ever made me this sidetracked as I leveled, from new classes to crafting to new areas. There's so much stuff to do, it's amazingly overwhelming. I'm constantly being introduced to new mechanics and interesting areas as I progress. Today I entered the Gold Saucer for the first time and spent over 3 hours there. My /playtime is 26 hours and my main combat job is only level 25.
I just wanted to share my experience with you guys. People say it only gets better than here which is all the more exciting.
