The technology is clearly already there, considering OCE is open to one and all. Please expand this functionality to at least include more regions. We'd love to have it. - We are greenlighting it right NOW
There are plenty of players out there who'd love to be able to do this. Either to be able to play with friends, to be able to play on a DC with better ping, or even just for the fun of it.
Let me take the rest of this post to pre-emptively address multiple points I see brought against allowing it.
Culture Clash
Considering how the amount of people that would somewhat consistently cross-region travel would likely not be very high in the first place, I doubt this would really form a problem? Especially between regions like NA and EU, where the average player has a hard time reading PF descriptions in the first place, I don't think there would be any noticable difference.
Regional PF/DF first!
Entirely seperate problem that has nothing to do with enabling cross-region dc travel.
Regular DC travel caused people to all congest in the big raid dc within their region, true. Enabling cross-region DC travel wouldn't really affect this much at all, however. Aside from the fact that the amount of Voyagers would be significantly lower than the amount of Travellers, an even smaller portion of those are specifically aiming to raid on another regions raid DC. Keeping in mind that a portion of these players are likely coming from their own regions raid DC and thus dont affect the total amount of players across raid DCs as a whole and...
Rambling aside, the point I'm making here is that the impact of enabling cross-region dc travel would be a drop in the bucket compared to what adding dc travel itself did for this. Cross-region DC travel and Regional PF/DF are solutions to two different problems, and don't affect each other's problems.
But the economy...
This does not meaningfully affect you unless you are a gazillionaire in a niche market. Vast majority of you are not.
Just make a character on the other region
I don't think many people are very receptive to the idea of grinding an entirely new character and their jobs just to play on a different region. Even assuming you buy every skip, it is still a very significant amount of time to unlock all the content you had before. Let alone the fact you won't have your gil or registrables either.
