Ladies and Gentlemen! Egg hunting season will soon be upon us, kupo! Moogles in all three nations are hard at work preparing the latest edition of the festival, for your hunting pleasure.

But there's more! This year we are also accepting posts about your egg-citing episodes when you first ventured into Vana'diel. Take a stroll down memory lane back to when you were just an egg; before you finally burst out of your calcium carbonate prison to spread your wings and become the seasoned adventurer that you are today, kupo.

With the weather warming up and the sun's rays bathing Master's bedroom in toasty goodness, all I want to do is lie down and--Zzz...Zzzzzz...
Whoops! I almost brought shame to the entire Moogle race by sleeping on the job, kupo. The reason I'm here is to tell you all about this year's Egg Hunt!

The Egg Hunt is coming soon to all three nations, kupo! The goal during this festival is to collect "initial eggs" that will be distributed by festival moogles. These special eggs are inscribed with letters, which when put together, spell out certain words and combinations, kupo. Some combinations may even snare you a prize, so collect these eggs and trade, trade, trade! You can trade not only with fellow adventurers, but with festival moogles in other nations as well.

For this year's festival, we will be accepting posts about your egg-citing early episodes in Vana'diel, before you had wings to fly, kupo. You may have now matured into a fully grown songbird, soaring high in the sky, but it wasn't so long ago you were just an egg, eagerly waiting for your hour in the sun to arrive. Send us a post about one of your early episodes to share with fellow adventurers, be it a touching tale, a sad story, or a failure so pathetic, you just had to laugh!

We would also love to hear from those who are still in incubation, kupo. Feel free to write about your dreams and aspirations in the wondrous world of Vana'diel. We look forward to receiving episodes from all of you, kupo!

*This event is scheduled to commence on March 13, 2008 at 00:00,and will last until March 24, 2008 at 00:00 (PST).

So I was thinking of submitting a story to this, just so people could laugh. Several of you have heard this story before. But I never did get to submit it in time. So here's my tale of utter noobery for friends at least:
About 4 years ago, shortly after the game came out in the US, I had fought my way through East Sarutabaruta and achieved level 9 white mage! The experience was getting a little low... so I thought I would venture into Tahrongi Canyon for the first time.

There, I was too fascinated by the expanse of the new zone, and completely forgot killing monsters in the name of exploration. Wandering around, I saw this this building that looked like some kind of a giant oddly-shaped skull half in the ground. Intrigued, I thought I'd check it out.

Carefully dodging Yagudo, as I neared the strange building, this glowing circle full of glyphs appeared in front of me and a giant red horned monster came roaring out.

I thought, "Oh gosh! This building has a boss fight!" and started fumbling to target it so I could attack with my club before it beat me to a bloody pulp. I wondered if a white mage could do it alone.

But instead of me, it headed straight for this small Tarutaru I hadn't noticed before. Fearing for my fellow player's safety, I tried to attack the monster to take it off him, but the game wouldn't let me. Maybe bosses were specific to player? But the Taru just kept running paying it no mind. So I followed after him, and tried to warn him as best I could in auto translate that there was a monster after him!

The little taru then stopped and the little figure started laughing, not only in emote, but in katakana at me. As the boss approached him, it did nothing but float by his side. I was at a complete loss.

He then explained in a combination of auto translate and kana, that this ferocious monster was his pet. He was a summoner who could call it at will, and it would obey him. He was then kind enough to demonstrate for me his powers of control, having this beast, called Ifrit, attack various monsters, killing them instantly.

He called forth other monsters, Shiva, Garuda, Titan, Ramuh, and Leviathan to show me the array of summons at his control. Before being able to call them, he had to defeated them with friends, and that was how to form a pact with them. Needless to say, I was impressed.

It was then I decided I wanted to be a summoner.

It's embarrassing to admit this, now that I'm a 75 summoner but we all start somewhere. Every time I summon Ifrit, I smile a little laughing at myself and remembering that kind taru who didn't rub it in too much. I wish I could remember his name to thank him. If he still plays, maybe he'll read this and remember the silly mithra who tried to save him from his own summon.
Let the noob laughing commence. ^.^;;

Great story, Zeri! =^.^=

My best "early days" story (not nearly as cool as Zeri's) happened when I was just getting whm to 9 or so. I had stuck to East Saruta mostly and was there killing a few things, when I got a tell from someone looking for a white mage. For their Dunes party. I had no idea where the Dunes were, but they gave me directions to get through Tahrongi, dodge stuff in Buburimu, and then take some ferry. This all seemed perfectly logical to them, dragging a slightly-underleveled whm across multiple zones to party with them, even though it would take ages for me to get there. I guess they were truly desperate.

I didn't know any better. ^_^;; I just headed out as best I could. I think I almost got to Buburimu before they finally decided it was going to take too long. I never made it out to the Dunes until I was almost 18. Maze of Shakhrami ftw! ^_^

wiped a whole party in the dunes when i saw this JA in my list that i had never used. Benediction for the win!!!

I started the game as a Mithra Warrior (using a sword ) and I remember trying to target and attack mobs whose names appeared in purple. I didn't understand the mob name color system at the time and I was getting pissed off that I could not attack certain mobs. I think at the time, I was trying to help someone who was dying to said mob....

I also remember being in Fort Ghelsba with Garret (when he was a Hume) --- he gave me like 5 or 6k gil and I thought WOW that's a lot of gil! :p Around that same time, I asked "What is a macro?" >.> hahaha...

The day I decided to switch to a TaruTaru was when this cute TaruTaru got off her chocobo to Raise my dead body... After that, I created Aangeliceus and started to level WHM.

Pitlith joined the game with our original social group, in early 2004. He and I would go into W. Ron and proceed to get killed repeatedly by sheep. Pitlith went on to get SMN opened and he swore by SMN for a {Long Time} until he discovered that the game did have other jobs. ;) - Pitlith joined Ultima before I did and I used to tag along to watch Ultima kill stuff I had never seen. I got sky access ~Level 53 with Corvac... Right after we got sky, Corvac tried to enter sky and kept getting DC'd. This went on for a couple of weeks if I remember correctly, turned out to be some type of port issue... lol.

Eventually, thanks to Pitlith, I joined Ultima in November '04 at Level 68 WHM. I remember having to Sneak myself repeatedly at Serket camp... lol. After many LS events and deaths... i eventually got Level 75 at a EXP party in Uleguerand Range... (hi2u RRIII)

The stories are endless... so many to remember to choose from. It is because of these memories and friends that I hold on to playing... Getting new stuffs is fun, but doing it with friends makes it that much more better.

I'm certainly 110% happy that it was Ultima that I started the HNM scene with and not some other shell. I was first offered to join Yojimbos after a Genbu fight which I was asked to help with... I turned that offer down hoping for Ultima. :D It was Deva who I received my first pearl from, skipping out on a EXP party to help with Sky gods.

:icecream:Good Times.
