It's always cool to recognize someone else because they're around your level and talking to the same guy as you. Sometimes I'll recognize the same person repeatedly on the same day and I'll go 'Hey, there's that guy' and try to guess which exact quest they're at. Just today I came across someone who was at the exact same point in the MSQ as I was (meeting the Company of Heroes), we ended up summoning two of the exact same giant toad and fought them together, it was pretty cool. It gives the game a real sense of shared progression and cooperation, even if you're not actually doing it together.
