I love those guys. They're my favorite FF content creators, but watching them start the Dawntrail MSQ fills me with anxiety. I've always been excited to see them react to the story. They gave me an appreciation for a lot of small things I missed. They made me like Lyse a lot more than I did the first time through Stormblood. I should be ecstatic for them, but after finishing Dawntrail for myself, I'm left with nothing but dread.
Within the first cutscene of the game Kyle calls the "sea sickness trope" before it happens and then it's repeated several times before they even get to start moving around the new city. Not even the slightest bit of amusement out of the both of them. Garret already pointed out "Wuk Lamat is a trope, now let's see what interesting thing they do with her". Oh boy. They have a bingo sheet of expectations going in, and most of them are actually interesting concepts that NEVER happen in the story.
I hate it man. These guys have centered their lives around the success of their channel, on their playthrough of the MSQ. They've enjoyed every expansion up until now. What happens if they don't enjoy Dawntrail? What happens if they disagree with the fans who did enjoy it? What happens if they become bored and jaded and critical, like a lot of us? It fills me with anxiety to think about. As much as I hated the MSQ, I hope they do genuinely enjoy their time with it.
Seriously, please fire whoever gave the green light on this story. I never thought I'd have genuine trepidation of someone experiencing a new Final Fantasy XIV story for the first time. It hurts man, it really hurts. Good luck, boys.
