So let me preface this with the knowledge that I have bought pretty much EVERY single possible account-wide store item, I have every artbook/encyclopaedia etc etc and I run multiple characters/alts in-game. Ever since I made the regrettable decision of buying a second artbook for a single minion to have on an alt, I've been holding back a lot on purchasing single-account items (mounts, outfits/character customisation and minions primarily) because I can't justify the cost of getting it solely for one character. I also lose a lot of steam having to grind out achievements across different alts because I want the title or achievement on them as well but it's such a time sink that I've already put into my main toons (e.g. the Firmament, deep dungeons, etc etc).
I hate to say this but World of Warcraft does do this one thing better where achievements, mounts and other things are account-wide and unlocking it on one unlocks it on all other alts.
I'd rather have "lost" the money and time for having done and/or purchased the same thing on multiple characters and have all future items/achievements be account-wide, than to have everything remain single-character only because the relevant parties believe that keeping it single-character will improve sales of merch and online-store items.
Characters having individual levels and story progression makes sense and I personally have zero stake in making levels account-wide as I enjoy the process of leveling up and progressing through the story. However, I don't feel the same way regarding achievements and items. If I've done the work on one character, it should be unlocked on all of my other characters too.
