Of course the best housing fix would be to add instanced housing wards to all existing and future housing areas: But if that is not something SE is looking at, may I give to you a new proposal:
Add the ability to upgrade your existing apartment. Each apartment starts at the standard 500k gil: Then you're able to upgrade your apartment from there.
First upgrade: COST: 3 million gil: Upgrades your apartment into a small condo with an upper floor. Item count increased to 200. Special housing item: Hanging garden (Capable of cross breeding.)
Second upgrade: COST: 20 million gil: Upgrades your apartment into a medium condo - Has a lower flower, main floor and upper floor. Special Housing item: Hanging garden (Capable of cross breeding. Able to have two.) Item limit increased to 300.
Third upgrade: COST: 30 million gil: Upgrades your apartment into a large condo - Has a lower floor, main floor WITH side room, upper floor and large balcony. Special Housing Item: Hanging garden (Capable of cross breeding. Able to have three.) Item limit creased to 400.
SECOND IDEA:
Add instanced housing to random locations in the world:
Create a pirate ship instanced house (As seen in EverQuest II with their Galeon)
Cabins out in Coerthas or The Shroud
Adobe styled homes out in Thanalan
Crystarium Apartments
Ending: There are lots of options for adding housing for those who can't get regular housing. There are lots of ways to fix the housing crisis in this game. If EverQuest II can implement these things on their spaghetti code, so can FFXIV. The framework is already in place.
