Willful Status and Will to Live are the best things they have added to the game (for me and maybe others like me)

I'm mostly posting because there may be some players reading this sub who gave up on the game due to difficulty of some of the EW and DT dungeons with Trusts/Duty Support and maybe it will encourage them to come back.

I will start by saying that I'm a terrible, terrible player. I was actually going to quit at the end of HW because I hated being a liability to other players so I dreaded doing every single storyline dungeon. Then Trusts were announced for Stormblood and I'd read good things about Trusts in FFXI so I continued playing and Trusts were wonderful in both Stormblood and Shadowbringers. Then along came EW and I started to struggle but still managed to clear most things with them, although occasionally I needed to inflict myself on other people. Then DT ramped up the difficulty a little more and I found myself relying on other people more than I felt comfortable with.

Then last night I decided to see what the new Willful thing had changed and it's like the game has changed from night into day for me. For anyone who hasn't read the patch notes then the Willful mechanism is (from the patch notes):-

"When undertaking duties via Duty Support or the Trust system, players will now receive the Willful status effect after being incapacitated by a boss and rechallenging the encounter.

The Willful status effect is expended when a player would take lethal damage, allowing them to survive with 1 HP.

When the effect is triggered, the player will be temporarily immobilized and the Will to Live status effect will be granted, restoring HP to full.

Stacks of Willful are granted in accordance with the number of times a player is KO'd, up to a maximum of five. Each stack allows the player to survive lethal damage once. The Willful status effect and any remaining stacks are removed upon defeating the boss."

This basically means that you can completely screw up a mechanic, but the next time you see it on retrying the boss you will probably survive and can move on to the next mechanic. If you screw that one up then you get two stack of Willful and can probably survive the first two mechanics, etc, etc.

I have a lot of time to play and for the past many hours I've literally done nothing other than run dungeons with Trusts and I think I've learned more mechanics than I have in the past four or five years of playing. I'm no longer the "headless chicken bard who gets lucky sometimes so I clear".

I'm still not going to inflict myself on any of you who do EX and above content - I have zero interest. I'm just happy that the storyline content is now more accessible to more people. Also, before anyone says any type of "git good" comment - I'm pushing 60 (age - not level) and I've never been good at games so the chances of me ever actually "gitting good" is pretty much zero.
