It’s been 14 years, and Gunbreaker is still the only tank that truly stands out as unique. By the time 8.0 releases, it will have been nearly eight years since we last got a new tank.
Back in Heavensward, they claimed existing players don't swap roles when a new tank gets introduced, but that should never have been the metric for success. The goal shouldn't just be converting DPS players, it should be giving the existing tank playerbase something fresh to keep them engaged, while naturally drawing in new players who want to try a new tank job.
Meanwhile, on the DPS side, they’re quite frankly scraping the bottom of the barrel just to find something new to add.
Yoshida said there will always be a new DPS because the DPS population is so big, almost like there's correlation as to why that is. Stop it, it's not healthy for the game, the DPS players will not combust when when they have to sit out one expansion, it's time to experiment with the other roles.
Also, the best received expansions have been expansions that introduced a new tank and the worst ones have been the double DPS ones. I don't believe in coincidences.
