I'm currently halfway through Shadowbringers and im still amazed the writing keeps getting better and better, I already thought Heavensward was amazing yet each expansion i keep getting blown away.
Which makes me wonder why ARR was so.... shit? the story was a slog and the characters I barely cared for. Alphinaud was an annoying shit, Thancred was a pest, Urianger felt like a creepy uncle, Miniphilia was useless and Yda and Papalymo were nothing (Y'shtola was pretty good though). Then at the very end of ARR they kick the character's shit in and they go through changes to become people i actually invested in. Did something change behind the scenes for the dramatic shift in quality to happen going into heavensward?
