I've recently picked up ffxiv and have been having an absolute blast with the game. The story's engaging, the flashy job actions give me ex-weeb war flashbacks but GOD do i love it, and THE COMMUNITY. Man where do I start. For starters, I've never played an mmorpg before, and one of the main reasons why I've been apprehensive to play any mmorpgs in the past was due to the notorious reputation some mmorpg communities have.
Seeing the mass of fully geared veterans when I first spawned into Limsa made me immediately self-conscious , theres a sprout beside my name, I'm grossly under geared, and why do I hear megalovania ??? But I only truly got the nerves when I stepped into Satasha for the first time. We spawned in, everyone was saying their o/ s, meanwhile im still fumbling hopelessly with the chat system.This is where my skill, or lack thereof, is laid bare to others, and im most likely going to fk everything over and theyre going to leave and gods help me I've only had this game for a few hours I don't know ANYTHING!! Thats where the tank went "aww it's a sprout" and proceeded to hold my hand the entire way through. And I do mean HOLD MY HAND, they pushed extremely slowly, pausing every now and then to explain mechanics of bosses and mobs, encouraging me when i was sure I messed up my one job as a dps. And when they dropped a random "I love you alll" in the chat and PETTED ME I was sure I was about to combust
To the folks from copperbell mines who didn't get pissed when I activated the lift leaving a member behind, dying twice to stupid bomb aoes, and not understanding you had to blow up the boss;
The folks who took the time to take me through every single room of Haukke manor "to get the full experience", explained to me what a limit break was mid fight, did a complete walk-through of the confusing progression mechanics ( I almost got left behind when they returned) and had a genuine conversation with
The mostly silent party from sunken temple of Qarn who still gave me three comms despite dying to the most basic aoe and doing only a barely passable job
And to everyone who's petted me at spawn points, my chaotic fc which is pretty much my extended family at this point, random healers who've popped a heal when I was getting overwhelmed from recklessly throwing myself into higher leveled mobs in the world and so so sooooo many more kind acts that have made me fall more and more in love with this game and the people in it
Thank you yall for making me feel so welcomed and at home, in the two weeks I've had this game (yes I'm baby) I've made friends and met friendly strangers, got adopted into a new family, and have been doing a bang up job ridding evil all the while dressed up as a flamboyant cat boy. I know the majority of players are veterans, you could probably steam roll a dungeon in minutes and probably have much funner things to do in game, and yet you still give us your time and patience, such that we may enjoy and come to love the game as you did,,, THANK YOU SO MUCH
tl;dr IM HAVING A BLAST AS A SPROUT AND I LOVE YOU
