... Living Memory?

And before I proceed, I just want to be clear: I am not bashing the story. I am asking for your reaction to it.

I'm kind of on the fence, to be honest. While the Endless were clearly an unnatural abomination, and no society could go on "feeding" them (whatever 'they' ultimately were) the way the system had been set up, what we did felt very... unilateral to me, considering how often the MSQ has prided itself on big decisions made via democratic means.

Like, Cahciua comes up to us and bluntly says "I want you to turn off the system," and even though she is one of the Endless, she's clearly not speaking for them - she's asking us to commit some kind of form of digital genocide because she's a realist and knows the dream has to end. But the WoL running around and talking to the other Endless doesn't amount to some kind of consensus or permission from the other Endless at all - we just chat with a few people and then flip the switch (and not only do we turn off the Endless - in the process, we sort of mar what was a very pretty [if gaudy] zone).

Again, I'm not bashing what we did, because it ultimately was, IMO, the right choice (although it's worth pointing out that theoretical "brain banks" of this sort have been discussed by modern physicists and could conceivably be possible [and built on similarly dubious ethical grounds] in a far-flung future, so it does have some basis in real scientific debate on what constitutes 'personhood').

Anyway, what did you think about this whole sequence and how it was approached?
