For the people who really hate that reference, that was for you
For the people who liked it, read my post history until you get annoyed and then come back. Now, how does one over-dramatize "I'm unsubbing from an online video game because I don't like it right now?"
I've been poking the bear on the forums for a little over a year now and playing the game with a persistent sub since 2020, and this morning I finally let it expire. I do wish it could've lasted longer, but I stuck around through the downfall of several other MMO's over the years and I really can't be bothered to do it again. There's still a flicker of hope inside me that they're going to get this game back on the rails, but there's also another part of me that acknowledges that any great thing is going to have to endure impermanence at some point or another. It might be time for you to consider this as well (unsub)
Until the game enters a state that I find satisfactory again I'm just going to sub for a single month at a time on the even number patches, do some content, and ditch the game again until one day I never come back. For anyone else who's not happy with the state of the game, just let go. It'll be fine I promise. As for the friends I've made - I still speak to most of them outside the game and do other things with them all the time anyway. No sub required. I'm really going to miss acquaintances for sure, especially the great folks from moon crafting, but it is what it is. Soles occidere et redire possunt and all that
I think overall it's a joyous time. I get to leave behind a toxic game and community, and likewise y'all are free from me for now. Just remember: You can't cook unless you stir the pot a little. Don't be afraid to challenge even your own predispositions to things going on all around ya, and definitely don't be afraid to unsub and see if it's what you've been needing all along. And if you see obtuse forum posts, throw in some bait. It's prime entertainment
I really do hope the game gets over this hump and everything recovers nicely. If it does then maybe I'll come back and decide not to post on the forums because I'm just so pleased with the state of things. Time will tell, so please look forward to it.
