Results from testing beast experience gain in Crucible

I got curious, so I ran a bunch of Crucible to test experience gains for your beasts. The images show the experience you get for running a full team through boards 1 & 3. I only did a single run of board 2 to see how it fit in, and I did not do any master boards. Bold numbers are verified by getting that rank with a beast of that level. All the other numbers are calculated or inferred. Here are some things I've noted:

  1. Beasts get less experience the higher level they are. Beasts above the level sync take a massive penalty.

  2. Higher level boards actually give less experience, however there is less of a penalty for higher level beasts.

  3. Taking less beasts does give more experience. As far as I can tell, a team of 3 or less gets double what you get for taking a full team, with the bonus decreasing as you approach the maximum. This was the same for both board 1 and board 3.

  4. There is a hard cap of 255 experience per beast. Any of the cells in red are at or above this cap, and yellow cells are more than half of 255, so a team of 3 will exceed the cap.

  5. One of the screenshots shows an "Adept" rating, but I never ended with one. I'm assuming it's between Journeyman and Renowned, because there is a large jump in experience between the two.

  6. The ratio between ranks was consistent between board 1 and 3, so I assume board 2 is the same. The run of board 2 I did fit nicely between the other two.

Given all this, I don't think it's really worth running small teams. If you run a full team of level 9s through board 3 and get a "Renowed" rating it's a total of 1,680 experience. If the bonus for having a team of 3 pushes you to Apex, you'd get a total of 1,002. In the case you want to level a specific beast, and don't care about any of the others, it's probably worth it, but you still need to keep the experience cap in mind.

As for whether spamming board 1 is better than the longer runs of board 3: I don't know. I didn't time anything, but my gut says the higher boards are probably better because the experience drops off so hard. A level 15 beast gets more than 3x the experience for a "Renowned" on board 3 than an "Apex" on board 1. For lower level beasts (sub 10 or so) board 1 is definitely faster.

tl;dr Don't run teams of just three low level beasts.
