The "titans" we see in the trailer are harvesting aether of all the elements in the fourth and the priestess sacrificied herself in order to prevent the titans from absorbing ice aether thus saving the reflection but overflowing it with ice. Also when we travel there and defeat the Titans the stolen aether will go back to the atmosphere.
As to the origin of the titans I have two theories:
1- One of the winterers projects to gather elemental aether.
2 - The titans are natural entities mindlessly gathering aether of every type.
