I really hope this post isn’t infringing on anything as I’m not aware suggesting alternatives to a merchandise would be an issue, but one can never know .
So you’ve seen the Primaniacs collaboration and are bummed about not being able to get any of the scents released for Emet Selch, Hythlodaeus and Venat *or* you went to eBay, looked at the prices and cried bloody murder? I went through the same thing and I think I found a solution for us poor NA/EU fans that always wanted to know what Emet’s furry collar smells like.
That is, I found dupes of the scents released by Primaniacs and I’d like to share them with y’all.
I’ve checked and these should be widely available both in in NA and EU, on Amazon as well as in actual beauty stores and also reasonably priced - besides the fact you can just ask for samples at the shops that sell them. I’ve also cross tested my findings with a friend who actually owns the primaniacs scents - lucky ****- and so we’ve been able to guarantee the alternatives’ accuracy.
Starting with Emet Selch:
His perfume is a fougére that is *very* manly, I mean, this is not really a feminine fragrance; smells smoky, warmly spicy and aromatic but then settles into something kinda sweet and comforting. Basically he smells like old money, entitlement and nostalgia. Which is also very Emet like. The perfect equivalent is “Al Bashiq” by Nabeel. Has all the same notes used in the primaniacs one but actually improves by adding others that make the perfume longer lasting. It substitutes rum with tobacco, leather and incense, but we found it gives the same feeling and sharpness of rum.
Hythlodaeus was the trickiest of the three but eventually we found an almost perfect dupe in “Feel Good” for her by Esprit. The only difference is that the Esprit one kinda mimics the freesias and hyacinths by using a bouquet of marigolds and jasmines. It’s a very light hearted, perky scent, feels exactly like Hythlo .
Finally, Venat. Now this one was actually the easiest and for me it was so funny because the moment I looked at the notes used by primaniacs I knew exactly what it was - it’s precisely Anais Anais by Cacharel, except the primaniacs one just uses a “green note” while Anais Anais shows exactly what flowers make that green note. So yes, Venat smells like my grandmother’s old fox tails from the 80s. Like “used to be all clean girl aesthetic but now years went by and I’m just old”.
Which… also totally fits the character incredibly well.
