I’m an anthropologist wanting to study how people create personhood and kinship in MMORPGs, with a focus on FFXIV. I’m already a player and I know the ropes of the game so I’m not coming into this blind!
I’m posting on this subreddit to gauge if anyone would be interested in participating. I’m located in EU and my account is on Raiden server.
I’m happy to engage with participants outside of this server and outside of EU.
Any responses are appreciated.
Please note that this piece of work is not a piece that looks to be critical of online gameplay. It is informed by previous ethnography, with the foundational text being Tom Boellstorff’s ‘Coming of Age in Second Life’.
