I’ve held onto this thought for a very long time, and at last, I’m writing it down.
For more than eight years now, I’ve been picturing a crossover – Final Fantasy XIV and Yu-Gi-Oh!, with Square Enix and Konami doing it together. It could seem a bit strange at first, though the more one considers it, the better the idea seems.
FFXIV has so many famous people, classes, eidolons, and subjects which would match Yu-Gi-Oh’s world of beasts, magic, tactics, and narrative really well. People such as Y’shtola, Thancred, Alphinaud, the Scions, Primals, Ascians and even the jobs themselves would all make very good cards, movements, or material for a topic.
Yu-Gi-Oh has already gone into many universes, and FFXIV has repeatedly proved it can change, re-think and honour other brands in a way which remains good to its own story. Think of:
A crossover event which is in the Gold Saucer. You do not need to keep up to date with the Yu-Gi-Oh rules to play in FF14 just insert the old Yugioh game called "Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos" and will be more than enough.
This is not to make FFXIV something it isn’t it’s to honour two great brands that a lot of us enjoyed while young.
For me, Yu-Gi-Oh and Final Fantasy were both large in my youth. To see them together, would be a lovely thing to witness and I am sure I’m not the only one who thinks like that.
I know that working together takes time, organisation, and the correct conditions. This isn’t an order, merely a hope, that it may happen one day.
