Now that I have a main and 2 alts, I find interesting to review/share my experience.
My main (summoner):
I did all expansions up to Endwalker. I'm a bit farther after the nightmare solo duty "Taking a Stand".
Overall, negative emotions dominated along the way. Even if there are a lot of things I liked at discovering the game, I couldn't really enjoy the content because there were too many things that killed my fun. Main one: Solo duties. I do hate them. Anyhow, let's not get me started about that...
My 1st alt (bard) :
Bard class is for me by far easier than summoner. I felt suddenly comfortable at fighting and was a lot more relaxed therefore, plus the fact that by now I know the game, what to do, where to go and so on. As a result, the game was suddenly enjoyable, like I would be playing a different game (solo duties still no fun, but at least I can manage). When I reached Kugane, I didn't feel to redo Stormblood content, so I purchased ToA and happily arrived straight in the Crystarium yesterday. Now I will continue with Shadowbringers content that I like. Fun all along.
My 2nd alt (black mage):
She is the toon I keep low level to play on days I'm tired. I just want to reach Idyllshire for custom deliveries. Nothing more.
Black mage is for me a difficult class so fighting is no big fun. Luckily, since I stay with rather low level content, it's OK enough. Upon reaching Ishgard, I got bored and purchased ToA for Heavensward completion. Now I'm on my way to Idyllshire, chilling around. Again a completely different way to play.
So, unless end game is your main and unique objective, it has some advantages to create alts, allowing for different ways to play the game, that can be very enjoyable.
