Just finished ARR (including post-ARR) for the first time and I feel like I need to process everything

Going into FF14, I already knew people said ARR was slow, and yeah… that part is definitely true. On top of that, I’ve never been able to get into MMOs so that was another worry going in. There were stretches, especially early on, where it felt like a lot of back-and-forth and filler quests, and I had to really push myself to keep going. As someone who mainly plays Final Fantasy for the story, I wasn’t fully sold for a while.

But man… that last stretch completely changed things for me.

Once everything started coming together — the politics in Ul’dah, Alphinaud’s plans, the tension between factions — it finally clicked. And then The Parting Glass quest at the end happened where I had to sit for like almost an hour to watch (but was worth it) and it felt like the game just pulled the rug out from under everything. Nanamo, Raubahn, the Scions getting scattered, being forced to flee… it was a LOT. The ending definitely made the rest of the game feel a lot better.

I wouldn’t say ARR was amazing all the way through — it definitely had ups and downs — but the payoff at the end made the journey feel worth it. It also left me way more invested than I expected when I first started.

Now I’m heading into Heavensward pretty excited, but also still thinking about how everything just went down. Curious to hear how it felt for others finishing ARR for the first time.
