Note: there is a TLDR at the bottom if you wanna read that instead but I go into details of those points. This is an in-depth look for those who are new to XIV, have never used a jump potion and are considering it, etc.

I had noticed alot of people ask about Jump Potions so I thought I would make a single thread for those wanting questions answered without looking through multiple threads.

~Here are also prices for the jump potions and what they do for some context (this is only at the time when lvl80 is current max lvl):

[[Lvl70 Job Potion(s)]] - includes lvl jump book for the chosen job (currently no DNC or GNB potions available), 500,000 gil worth of Platinum Pieces to sell and full lvl70 Augmented Tombstone gear. Each are $25/£18.50/€21.75. DOES NOT SKIP YOU THROUGH STORY.

[[ARR Story Skip]]: boosts story to "Coming to Ishgard" lvl50 main story quest (skips only ARR), 300,000 gil worth of Platinum Pieces and 10 silver chocobo feathers $11/£7.92/€9.20 DOES NOT SKIP YOUR LVL, ONLY STORY

[[HW Story Skip]]: boosts story to "Beyond the Great Wall" lvl60 main story quest (skips ARR and HW), 300,000 gil worth of Platinum Pieces and 10 silver chocobo feathers $18/£12.95/€15.30 DOES NOT SKIP YOUR LVL, ONLY STORY

[[SB Story Skip]]: boosts story to "The Syrcus Trench" lvl70 main story quest (skips ARR, HW and SB), 500,000 gil worth of Platinum Pieces and 10 silver chocobo feathers $25/£18.50/€21.75 DOES NOT SKIP YOUR LVL, ONLY STORY

Ok so here is both my take as well as details to help anyone considering it. This is gonna be a long one so buckle up for it: I think the skip potions are both a blessing and a curse depending on the situation. Now this is going to discuss upon the (at the moment of this post) skips that only get you to lvl70.

[[1.]] You want to play with others on a different data center, already have gotten through the story and already at a max lvl? Go for it. You've already been through it (as long as you don't use a skip for a class you have no idea how to play) then you good.

[[2.]] You've been playing the game for some time now, feeling like you are dragging through the story especially during ARR or maybe even SB. Is it worth it to skip? Not really no. When you story skip, it skips you to just before that next content (if you use the ARR skip, it'll take you to just before HW; if you use SB, it'll take you to just before ShB and so on).

~You won't be boosted lvl wise, you will still have to get to the lvl required for the expansion you jumped to. (If lvl 1 and use the SB skip, you will be on the lvl70 story quest; missing out on all that MSQ exp and still have to lvl to catch up).

~You won't be able to fully understand what's going on as you are jumped into the story without any explanation and very confused. Also if you are at SB, it's really not worth the price just to skip through the one expansion because it's a higher price tag (the SB skip includes ARR, HW and SB hence the higher price).

[[3.]] For new players I can understand wanting to get to the end content and you just don't care about the story. HOWEVER... You should still be willing and able to put time into your character and into your class. Just because you skip the story, unless you buy the job potion, you are stuck still at lvl1 and lost SOOO much exp you would get from the story and it will take longer.

~If you buy both (and you are willing to shell out the cash for it as it's not cheap for both), take the time to go back into the earlier dungeons and actually learn the job. Hell's go start at a dummy just to get the bare bone basics of the class done like the 1 2 3 rotation down and read the skills/tool tips.

~Do not, and I repeat DO NOT, jump straight into the content you CAN do (which is lvl70 content as of right now) because then you are just going to confuse yourself, frustrate your party and it could possibly sour the game for you. Take a look at the point before this one of going into the older content to get your class down.

~And if you do such... Don't be surprised when people get mad at you for buying a skip potion and not learning a thing about the class then get salty about it. It is YOUR responsibility to learn YOUR job on YOUR character, no one else's. People can help, give advice, even send you links to rotations but you can't expect people to hand hold you the entire time.

~If you complain about the story.... You skipped it all and have no idea what's going on, that's on you. There is NewGame+ now (which allows you to be able to physically go through all the story you have completed and see all past cutscenes, voice and not voiced.) If you really want to know what's going on, go do that and don't complain until you finish it. That's like a child who complains they won't like eating bananas because of how it looks without even trying it.

[[4.]] There are certain classes that you can only get when you reach a certain lvl or a certain area...

(and I'm talking about:

SAM and RDM - starts at and requires a lvl50

DRK, MCH and AST - requires to get to HW, starts at lvl30

DNC and GNB - starts at and requires a lvl60)

...that people REALLY REALLY want to play out the door and was what drew them to the game. I've had a friend like this, he just wanted to go through the story as that 1 particular job which was RDM. I talked him through what he would need to do in order to achieve it. He went ahead and started the game, got to his starting city then used a RDM potion. Once he got it and got the job, he still went all the way through from the lvl1 content to max lvl on just his RDM cause that's all he wanted.

And ya know that's perfectly fine too because then it gives you that time to grasp on the class and sort of "lvl up" as you'd go into the low lvl dungeons from the start to the end as you would normally.

[TLDR:]

[[1.]] If you just wanna play with others on different Data Center and you are at max lvl, you do you.

[[2.]] You've been playing for some time and just slogging through, think about where you are in the story to think if the price and time you'd have to put into lvling to catch up is worth the jump potion.

[[3.]] If you wanna get to end game and don't care about story: be willing to shell out the money for it, read the skills, take the time to practice and don't jump into the content you can do. Don't complain about the story you clearly don't know about cause you skipped it, you don't have a right to do that. Go back and watch the NewGame+. Don't complain if people get salty for you not knowing what to do.

[[4.]] If you wanna do it on a certain locked class (still do the story from lvl1) but don't want to do the story until then on another class you don't completely like or want to do it for RP purposes, then just get the potion for what you want and start from the beginning and you'll do fine.

Hope this helps some new players and even veteran players to understand a bit more about jump potions.

[NOTE: Some information like prices and the amount of story, exp, etc is subject to change at any time when Square releases updated jump potions. But this covers the basics of jump potions, how they work, what you can do and if you should consider it.]
