Is the Y tribe doomed? [Spoiler: 7.45]

So...the story for the Merchant's Tale tells us two pretty important things about the Y tribe:

  1. Y'rhul Nunh had 12 daughters.
  2. He was still Nunh when he died.

Combine that with the fact that we know Y'shtola is 32 years old, and we have a bit of a pickle. Assuming Y'rhul was the sole Nunh of the tribe and that he held that position continuously, that's only 12 women born in over 3 decades. And at least some of them are already on the waning portion of (what would be for real-world women) their prime child-bearing years. Did Y'rhul Nunh preside over a whole lost generation?

I can think of a handful of explanations here that avoid demographic crash:

  • This is normal, and the Y tribe is just tiny. Like, really tiny. Like, a total population of less than a hundred tiny.
  • The Y tribe had multiple Nunhs. We know from Stormblood that this is possible, though rare. And the other Nunh was picking up Y'rhul's slack.
  • Y'rhul at some point lost a challenge after fathering children, returned to Tia and stayed that way for decades, only to win a challenge and become Nunh again later in life. Possible, I suppose, but weird.
  • There is some as-yet-undiscussed position of "Nunh Emeritus" whereby a former Nunh can still be referred to by the title while no longer being the active Nunh, instead of becoming a Tia again. Perhaps if one steps down voluntarily without losing a challenge? Or maybe Y'rhul was a Tia at the time of his death, but any Seeker male who ever held the position of Nunh is referred to that way posthumously?

What do folks think is the best way to explain this? Other than just saying "lore is inconsistent, and you shouldn't expect numbers to make sense," because that's just boring.
